Hola amigos,
This week has been an absolute roller coaster of emotions. From flying back from Idaho, absolute last minute packing, and to finally arriving in the MTC, I haven't had much time to think. But in a sense that's been a blessing. I have absolutely loved the MTC. They don't have any of the flags up, which makes me sad, but everything else has been awesome. Granted, the food is hit or miss.
My district and companions are actually cooler in person believe it or not. Somehow with room decisions they split the trio up to put me with Elder Shaumway and Elder Gaerte. Which of course has been wonderful. Elder Shaumway has put us to sleep every night with his guitar. Stud. I aspire to have the flying fingers of that man. Adjusting to missionary life is a little different actually being OUT on the mission. I've enjoyed the support of my wonderful district and companions. Elder Adamms was just assigned our district leader and I can't think of a better man for the job. Compassionate, spiritual, motivational, mozart, and a stud runner, this guy exceeded the criteria.
Learning Spanish hasn't seemed to have a huge amount of success, but flashcards have been my best friend.
I have enjoyed the weather from inside my room. Being an Arizona baby, I have to bundle up before making the pioneering trek to the cafeteria. The snow has been really fun to see though.
I hope all of you have had an amazing week! Spiritual thought for the week.
We were talking this week about the story of the woman who was healed by touching the robes of Christ, found in Luke 8:42-48. Something that struck me as fascinating is the initiative of this young woman. It's the same initiative found in the story of the Brother of Jared. In both cases, there were no commandments, requirements, or step by step teachings of what to do. In both cases, the individuals in the stories were required to take the initiative and have faith in their own ideas. Sometimes we forget how much capabilities we have as sons and daughters of God. We remember the teachings, the commandments, and assume that these are "all that we can do." We forget that to obtain the unrealized blessings waiting on the other side of action we must take the initiative. Search out the opportunities that hide in the shadows and create what hasn't been created and the Lord will bless you.
Stay safe.
Elder Blackburn
