Hola a todos! I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful last week. I just wanted to take a few moments to talk about how the work is going out here in Winchester, Virginia.
For starters, it is crazy to think how long I have been here. This is my second area in the mission, and to think that it's been a full 6 months is absolutely crazy to me. There is a pretty good chance that I will be leaving this area in about 2 weeks. This transfer has flown by as well. Being in a trio has been hard, additional responsibilities have been hard, and I've learned and grown a lot. Perhaps the greatest lesson I feel I have learned over the last few months is that of positivity. Sometimes I wish I was naturally more positive. I've learned that perspective and attitude towards all things is oftentimes a make or break, regardless of one's internal personal feelings or predetermined attitude that day.
Well, I thought I was going to get rocked last Monday. As we were out walking around in Winchester, a very very drunk man started yelling at us. He walked up to us while screaming and cussing and telling us to get off his street. Because I was walking in front, he came right up to us and got straight into my face, asking if this was funny and how he was going to pound my little face in (cheery). Anyway, after he spit on my shoes, we had a good staredown for a couple minutes before he ended up walking away. Needless to say, the Lord protects his servants. Church is true!
As far as weather goes, it has gotten pretty cold. As we draw near unto Christmas, we are starting to see snow. Nothing is sticking of course, but we are into the 30's as far as temperature. I am so excited for Christmas. It is THE best holiday.
This last week we had exchanges with the zone leaders and interviews with the mission president. Our transfer theme is on the love of Christ. When I was in my interview, we talked about this love that we have for our Savior and Redeemer. We talked about how it overshadows everything. Our love for God is what motivates us to change, to soften our hearts, and to repent. Our love is the driving force behind effort. We as missionaries want others to make and keep sacred promises with the Lord because of the love they have with their Savior. Our love for Him needs to become a part of who we are. When we love Him, we understand that He come second to none, and we choose to keep the commandments and become more like Him. Development of Christlike attributes (faith, hope, charity/love, patience, knowledge, virtue, obedience, diligence, humility) is one of the greatest demonstrations of love for Him. We set aside our natural and wordly weaknesses and grow into our divine potential. I invite each of you to actively search and participate in the spiritual growth of these attributes. If you think you're doing pretty well, start with humility.
